Course Description
Substance Abuse and Older Persons: Part Four: Treatment Choices examines the problems of access the appropriate substance abuse treatment programs for older persons. The course reviews the available treatment choices and their treatment philosophies and interventions. The course describes the role of the person’s support system of family, friends, and case workers during treatment, and the need for treatment programs designed for older persons with early and late onset abuse problems.
Credit Hours
This course has been approved by The National Association of Social Workers and National Board of Certified Counselors for 5 Continuing Education Hours. (CEH 5)

Objectives
Upon completion of Part Four: Treatment Choices, the learner will be able to:
- Select culturally appropriate treatment services for older persons
- Describe the detoxification and initial treatment process for alcohol and drug abuse for older persons
- Describe outpatient treatment programs that are appropriate for older persons.
- Describe treatment choices for after care and relapse prevention and intervention.
